Bill’s Marathon – 22nd State
After several cancelled marathons, Bill was finally able to find a small marathon in Shenandoah, Iowa. The timing worked perfectly in our slow journey south and west. Since this was a trail marathon, Bill started training in July on trails in Wisconsin. His training spanned trails in four states in temperatures that often spiked into the 80s and 90s–it was all about finding trails in the shade! The planners for this marathon took great pains to make it a safe experience and we were both amazed at how professional and enjoyable a truly small-town marathon could be in the midst of a national pandemic.
